What is the Inner East Loop?
The Inner East Loop was a proposed new location roadway studied by Brazos County to connect the eastern areas of Bryan and College Station. The study was funded through the voter-approved 2022 Transportation Road Improvement Program (TRIP) bond.
On July 29, 2025, the Brazos County Commissioners Court voted unanimously, 5-0, to terminate the $11.2 million contract with Quiddity Engineering for the study and design of the Inner East Loop. Brazos County subsequently announced that it would take no further action on the project.
The proposed corridor had been studied from SH 6 north/east of Bryan, across the SH 30 area, to William D. Fitch Parkway in College Station. The materials and information on this website are preserved as part of the history of the project and the citizen-led No East Loop effort.
Brazos County has also preserved the original project materials on its website for transparency and historical purposes.
Although Brazos County ended the Inner East Loop study and terminated the Quiddity contract in July 2025, the previously proposed Inner East Loop corridor still appears on existing long-range planning maps, including the Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization’s 2050 Major Thoroughfare Concept and the City of Bryan’s Thoroughfare Plan.
Those planning documents are now being revisited. The BCSMPO has adopted a process for updating its Major Thoroughfare Concept, and the City of Bryan is currently updating its Comprehensive Plan, which includes long-range transportation planning.
The cancellation of the County’s study ended the specific Inner East Loop project being pursued by Brazos County. It did not automatically erase a conceptual future roadway from every regional or city planning map. No East Loop will continue to follow these planning processes and encourage residents to participate whenever changes to these maps are considered.
Was the Inner East Loop intended to be the locally selected route for I-14/214? No. BCSMPO’s own history, published in January 2026, of the 2050 Major Thoroughfare Concept distinguishes the two projects. The MPO states that the Eastern Inner Loop originated in the City of Bryan’s Major Thoroughfare Plan as far back as 1983 and was later extended to William D. Fitch to create an arterial loop around the urban core.
The Outer Loop had a different purpose. According to the MPO, because I-14 was expected to traverse Brazos County, planners evaluated several alignments and determined that the Eastern Outer Loop, extended into an I-214 loop around Bryan and College Station, could accommodate that regional interstate corridor while reducing impacts to already developed areas.
The distinction is important: the MPO’s own planning history associates I-14/I-214 with the Outer Loop, not the Inner East Loop. Read about I-14/214.
